My personal baby registry / baby gear tips

We are totally in life-with-a-baby mode and there are so many things I’ve learned in the past 11 months in terms of what I’ve found we do or don’t need for a baby (so far - things are always changing of course!). Sharing if it’s helpful for anyone else!

Ok - I’m just going to do bulleted style. Let’s get into it.

  • High chair: I sort of feel strongly about this. We got the $20 IKEA high chair and I’m thrilled I can hose that thing down and not give an f haha. Babies are so MESSY. It is amazing. And their food just gets dried and caked on there and sometimes we just want to use a hose haha.

  • Bassinet: For our first we used a pack n play with a bassinet insert for the first four months of her life and my back throughout this period was totally torched (still recuperating 11 months later). I’m sure my back issues are primarily due to a weak core but I think the bending position we had to take to get the baby out of this particular contraption did not help. We love our pack n play otherwise - but I would get a legit beside bassinet next time. (Our pack n play is the Baby Jogger City Suite - super light, decently affordable, easy setup, we love it).

  • Toys/clothes: I’m just going to lump these together because the theme is the same - we really don’t use a ton. I would say we cycle through the same 10 ish outfits in whatever size she’s currently in. For toys, she would much rather use whatever we’re using, which are not toys. Loves remotes, keys, toilet paper rolls, whatever. Even if we buy a toy thinking “oh she’ll love this it’s a baby toy version of keys” yeah she’ll probably like it, but she’s just as entertained by stuff we have in the house. Also, a caveat worth mentioning, if you are a family planning to attend daycare, the clothes get dirty and toys at home aren’t getting used quite as much. So, my point is, we haven’t spent as much in this area. I personally love these multi-packs of organic cotton onesies.

  • Car seat / travel system: We have the Baby Jogger City Select travel system and it has worked great for us. Especially when she was so little, being able to plug the car seat directly into the stroller was sooo nice. We would grocery shop with it and just use the bottom basket for our groceries which was kind of a nice perk haha. It’s not particularly light but we have traveled and flown with it several times without issue. We did end up getting a generic umbrella stroller as a cheap/lightweight option once she was a little older.

    • Here’s what I wont shut up about and highly recommend: a rotating car seat. Omg. We have the Baby Jogger City Turn. I’m sure any other rotating car seat will bring just as much joy. My husband has a non-rotating car seat in his car and the joy of use just isn’t quite there.

I think this is a good start! I’ll keep adding as I think of things. Let me know if there’s anything I missed!
