A fall trip down south - St. Augustine, FL (part one)

We celebrated my husband's 30th birthday by taking a trip south (for us NC folk 😜). We spent four nights in St. A and spent two nights in Beaufort, SC (which will be part two). Keep reading to see our itinerary - which we made up on the fly lol but turned out to be pretty solid!

Check in day: Upon arrival we checked in to our Airbnb (walkable to downtown) and hopped around downtown St. A. We got burgers and old fashioneds at Prohibition Kitchen and checked out Ancient City Brewing.

Day one: The next day we did a morning walk to get coffee (which became a daily routine I loved) at Relámpago Coffee Lab. Then we had a full day of exploring... the first half of the day we walked around St. A, explored Flagler College (beautiful),

had lunch at Casa Reina,

and went to the fort. It was so so hot though - recommend doing that before noon if you go in the summer or fall.

After alllll that walking around (at this point like almost 10k steps) we rested then headed across the Lions Bridge for a couple places some locals told us about. First up - Sarbez: a craft grilled cheese / arcade game / bar. We really digged this place and the craft grilled cheese was fireee. After that, we walked across the street to Odd Birds for a night cap.

Day two: We started with a walk to get our morning coffee. This morning we went to Sweetwater Coffee Bar and Gallery, and then headed to the beach. We headed down A1A and parked on A street - right on that corner is The Pit Surf Shop and my husband rented a surfboard. We hung out for a few hours and then got lunch at the Beachcomber which is basically right on the beach behind the dunes. After the first half of the day at the beach, we headed home to shower and rest before heading out again to the Tini Martini Bar and the Columbia restaurant!

Day three: On day three, we again started with our coffee walk. This time we got coffee at the St. Augustine Coffee House, then went and hopped on the Old Town Trolley which takes about 1.5 hours. It's hop on hop off which is nice, but we stayed on for the duration. We then got lunch at Roosevelt kitchen,

drove to the beach for putt putt at Fiesta Falls,

and finished the day with dinner at burrito works taco shop.

Departure day: Before heading out to stop two on our week long trip, we got breakfast and coffee at Schmagel's Bagels

St. Augustine was beautiful and we had a great time. A few things to consider:

  • Coming from Asheville, NC - we weren't super impressed with the craft beer

  • There are a lot of cigarette smokers - so if you're a smoker, great, if not, wanted to share that observation

  • September is technically rainy/hurricane season and it did rain everyday, but it was isolated to the afternoon and maybe an hour or two which wound up being perfect timing for a siesta
